Holiday Giveaway Day Four – Branch

We’ve made it to the fourth and final day of the Pretty Little Green Things’ holiday giveaway!  If you haven’t entered to win the products from day one, two or three, there’s still plenty of time left to comment.  Winners will be announced starting on Monday.

For Holiday Giveaway Day Four, I could not be more excited about this next amazing eco retailer and his giveaway product.  Paul Donald from Branch has generously donated a super chic Hanging Test Tube from Pigeon Toe Ceramics.  If you’re not familiar with Branch, well, you should be!  It’s your one stop shop for all things green and cool.  If you’re looking for that perfect present or home decor piece, I guarantee Branch will have it.  And best of all, he’s already done the research on the best and most sustainable products and companies out there, so you can shop with a good conscience.

One very lucky reader will win one of these ceramic test tubes (minus the greens of course – you’ll have to add your own holiday sprigs!)

I am absolutely in love with Pigeon Toe Ceramics’ pieces so I wanted to tell you a bit about this amazing company too.  Lisa Jones and her team started Pigeon Toe Ceramics in 2009 in Portland, Oregon by creating one of a kind, eco-friendly pieces.  I think their motto just about sums them up: “Because your purchase should be an heirloom, not a hassle. Because memories should be created, not collected.  Because stories should be handed down, not mass-produced.  Because at Pigeon Toe Ceramics we’re crafting both our futures.”  So with that, I’m going to share some of my favorite pieces with you, all of which are available at Branch.

I am using recycled glass as decor in my living room. There is a great artist nearby that recycles glass into gorgeous work.

  • Old, but still creating

I have been enjoying all your ideas for a green holiday. Years ago, a friend of mine used to buy a live evergreen tree which he decorated in the house and then in the spring he planted it in his yard. I love reusing rather than tossing. I have been re-using men’s suiting for years. Knowing people who are retiring has given me an almost unlimited supply of no-longer-worn suits. Keep up the good idea.

These are really gorgeous! I love all their stuff, simple and elegant. I decorate some willow branches instead of a Christmas tree – no room in my tiny house!

Living in a tiny city apartment, avoiding excess is an eco-friendly necessity! So the holidays are very pared down — lots of paper origami ornaments (that fold flat and can be tucked away).

  • Peter

    Very cool, count me in

I love to use mason jars, air plants, and colored sand with tea lights to make hanging arrangements that I can recycle into new combinations whenever I get antsy for change!

I’ve had my eye on these awesome ceramic hanging planters from Branch! Branch is one of my faves. And since I’ve been adding more houseplants to help purify the air in our home, these planters would make a lovely addition.

    Wonderful products! Thanks!

I love the re-purposed mason jar votive candle holder- where can I find how-to instructions?

  • Jadecanlas

    Everything is so cute!

I love the ceramic test tubes! They remind me of the gorgeous DIY decor at my friend Boo’s wedding in South Africa. She strung up glass test tubes with fishing line, each with a bright gerber daisy, all around the edge of the reception gazebo.

My decor tends to be pieces from my travels that are meaningful. I try to buy from local artisans and then always have the memory of the trip when I’m back home in my living room. Most decor is pretty Africa centric right now, with a bit of Hawaii thrown in. And after Petra infamously told me my decorating style is monochromatic, I’ve branched out from buying all blue tones :)

  • Boo Prince

LOVE the test tubes! Sending Petra pics of how they looked at our wedding!

So pretty! Thanks again for the great ideas. I do not think you can beat plants for eco-friendly decor but I also like corkboard rolls for the wall to pin up photos & mementos. Providing it is responsibly harvested, they can add a personal touch to a small flat & wont give off weird toxins. Idea originally from Petra!

Oh, I love Pigeon Toe Ceramics!

For sustainable decor, I like natural materials like acorns, nuts, and pinecones (add color with pomegranates and artichokes). Of course get a root tree (small tree with roots in tact, then replant in the great outdoors after your celebrations). And the biggest difference – NO WRAPPING (unless it’s with usable cloth, like linen tea towels).

I love Pigeon Toe Products. I choose a few handmade pieces for decor over mass produced and try to add a handmade piece from my travels. :)

  • Pigeon Toe

That item is slipcast from a vintage mason jar, so unless you know how to build plaster molds and pour clay slip that product is probably not DIY-friendly. You could probably find a white paint that you coudl apply directly to a glass surface for a similar effect.

((also don’t enter me in this giveaway– I can make a test tube for myself))

Thanks for the comment and jumping in to explain a bit about your process. The mason jar is a beautiful piece, especially lit up with a candle. Thanks for helping make the world a beautiful and eco-friendly place!

  • Staci

I’d like one of each please! I’ve been admiring Pigeon Toe for quite some time.

So pure and lovely. We recycle and repurpose so much around here, like creme brulee containers for flower drainage.

I have been looking for a decorative test tube idea for my garden herb cuttings. I would love to win these beauties and hang them above my sink in the kitchen.  One for Basil, one for Thyme, and one for the Rosemary… I may have to buy two more for the Sage and Oregano :)

Just realized this is a year old post… darn :(
